This coordinate is loosely inspired by the valkyrie character Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere, a video game based on Norse myths and The Song of the Nibelungs, a German epic poem. While there's much to like about many of the protagonists, Gwendolyn's story in particular resonated with me in that growing up, her love and talents went unrecognized and unencouraged by nearly all of the people around her. Against enormous odds (in this case being cursed and forcibly married off for her father’s political gain), she finds herself in a relationship with someone who sincerely cares about her and wants her to be happy, a foreign concept to her. She is suspicious and even intentionally tries to sabotage it at first but through the events that follow, she grows to trust that he does actually love her, and gains confidence through her feelings for him. This love and confidence gives them both the strength to survive incredibly difficult events and help prevent the end of their world.
It turned out that this Atelier Pierrot dress I had somewhat resembles her princess gown, so that became the base for this outfit. I made a chainmaille choker and handflowers with shiny wing-like scales to go with it, to bring in valkyrie and armor elements because for most of the game she's in battle armor. She has braided silver hair so this was my excuse to buy a gray wig. I really wanted a headdress with feather wings on it but couldn't find or come up with a plan to make anything I liked. This end result is different from what I envisioned but I still think it's pretty.
