Azuki's Metamorphose Wardrobe 2022: Main Piece Detail Shots
Appendix: main pieces detail shots!
There
wasn't enough room to put all of this in my main wardrobe post but I still really wanted to show off the details of my main pieces because it's personally one of my favorite parts of wardrobe posts.
They are sorted by release year, oldest to newest. Some of this material is from previous wardrobe posts, but I did get 7 new Meta dresses since January 2021. New additions have their names in italic text.

Easily one of my favorite dresses I got in 2020 and a prized dress in my collection. I finally have a legit oldschool black and white piece, with the fleur-de-lis and wing cross petterned raschel lace to boot. [reference link]
Another one of those old school gold pieces that came up for cheap and I just happened to be lucky enough to snag it. I was really surprised to find when it arrived that the print on this JSK is plastisol ink printed on top of solid black fabric (like one might print a T-shirt). I also replaced the elastic around the top because it was very worn out. It also came with a matching cape! [reference link]
Polka Dot Bustle Shirring OP (2006)
An impulse buy, as many old school purchases are because you can never expect things this old to show up; they just do, and you have to be ready, especially since there are so many more people looking for them now, and especially for pieces with lots of shirring because the elastic tends to get worn out after this many years in existence. I usually wear pink as an accent color rather than a main color, but I ended up loving how this looks on me. It is absolutely covered in lace, and the bustle back is super pretty. I showed it to my non-lolita sister and she said "it gives me Little House on the prairie vibes". lol. [reference link]
Gingham Cherry Shirring JSK (2007)
I had admired this print for a long time (cherries!) but held out for this cut and colorway, and my patience was rewarded with a very affordable price. It's comfortable and cute. I'm finding I really like the combination of blue and red. The daisy headdress I made recently should also match this nicely if I ever want to really dress this up, though I normally wear it more casually. [reference link]
Swan Embroidery Skirt (2007)
I (still) don't have good pictures of this because it's currently in pieces awaiting alteration, but the solid color with elaborate embroidery sold me on this skirt, and the price was really good too. [reference link]
Candy House High Waist JSK (2008)
Admittedly I bought this to tide me over until Otome Nostalgia arrived. I previously owned this print as a skirt in the black colorway but I think the pink colorway is much cuter. It is Hansel and Gretel themed. Like the JSK above, it has pretty ladder lace. It also has a bustle in the back! I will need to have this altered to fit me a little better. [reference link]
Princess Crown Bouquet Shirring JSK (2009)
One
of my first dream dresses, wanted primarily because of the black and
blue color scheme with roses with a cut that would fit. This was my
first Metamorphose main piece; I bought it secondhand in August 2015. I
don't wear it
as often as I'd like but I love the whole mood of the print. It's
definitely for a princess and not a queen, elegant but innocent. [reference link]
Perfume Bottle Frill Skirt (2010)
I bought this because it was cheap and I loved the butterflies and jewelry in gold/pink/blue on black, and I like to wear it casually. It originally was sold in a lucky pack. [reference link]
Fruit Punch Soda High Waist JSK (2011)
One of the new additions to my collection. Fruit Punch Soda is a series I've eyed for a long time because of the colorful fruits on black, but knew none of the dress cuts would fit me as is. When a black colorway JSK set went up for a very good price I knew I had to go for it. I plan to have it altered for some extra room. I also managed to find a matching mini hat for peak early 2010s sweet vibes. It has the cutest heart shaped sugar cubes and honey pots on it. [reference link]
Marguerite Wreath Short Sleeve OP (2011)
I have loved this print ever since starting a lolita collection, but hesitated to buy it because none of the cuts I liked would fit me. I initially fell in love with the white/green colorway, but realized after a number of years being in the fashion that the brown/blue colorway would suit me better (and I particularly love the shade of blue in this print, especially against the white and golden yellow). When I saw two of the OPs in brown come up for sale, I decided this was my chance to finally have this print, and I had them altered into one larger dress. Between the two of them they had exactly one complete set of original detachable pieces. [reference link]
Cat Border/Melody Cat Frill JSK (2012)
One of my all time dream dresses that I had searched for since 2014. It finally appeared for sale late in 2019. The black and purple colorway of this print is perfection. [reference link]
Cat Border/Melody Cat Mini Skirt (2012)
I bought this to tide me over while I was looking for the Frill JSK cut, but even after I finally found the JSK, I decided to keep this skirt too. It brings me such joy. I wear this casually with normal clothes and people always get excited when they realize there are cats on it. [reference link]
Wonder Card/Card Playing Kitty Sweet Heart JSK (2012)
My favorite details on this dress are the black cats (probably because I have a black cat and I love her so much, though these look more fluffy than she does) and the big embroidered hearts. I very recently had this altered to be bigger, so after 3 years of owning it I can finally wear it. I also had the seamstress sew another layer of ruffle around the outside of the bodice heart, so I quite literally asked her to sew frills onto the hem of my heart, like the Novala Takemoto essay. I'm very excited to make outfits with this now. [reference link]
Candy Shower A Line OP (2014)
I loved this print as soon as it was released because of its bright
rainbow colors, and while there is a red colorway, I think the white
colorway shows them off the best. I don't usually go for white dresses
but for me there's enough pink and other colors. I was also not sure
about the cut, but for the price I paid I was willing to give it a shot
and was pleasantly surprised. I have some good memories with this dress
and would love to wear it again. [reference link]
Dozing Cat Hakama Tuck JSK (2015) Traditional Japanese prints AND cats!! I don't usually buy things new on release but I absolutely couldn't refuse this one. The copious use of the checkerboard pattern in such starkly contrasting colors is a bit loud for my usual taste but as someone who claims Metamorphose is their favorite brand, sometimes you just have to lean into it even when you're not totally sure about it. This is the only dress I woke up in the middle of the night to participate in a bloodbath for, and I emerged victorious. The flopped-over cats on the border print are my favorite detail, followed closely by the camellia on the shoulder bow. [reference link]
Little Squirrel Mini Skirt (2015)
I used to have the JSK cut of this print in green and sold it because it sadly did not fit as well as I hoped, but still really loved the print. When this skirt popped up for sale early this year, I decided I would get it for more casual wear, and I am really liking the cottagey mori-style mashups I've created with it. [reference link]
Secret Eden Special Set JSK, Mini Length (2015)
After
seeing a particularly pretty coordinate with this print I wanted to get
it for myself. The print is more of a blue gray than
the greenish blue I was expecting, but it actually looks better on me
that way. The cut looks really nice on me too! I have a couple of
coordinates planned with this but they're both kind of fancy, so I'm
waiting for a good opportunity to bust them out. Mini length because I
am short gorl. [reference link]
Nostalgic Matryoshka Doll Lace Up JSK (2016)
Kind
of an impulse buy when I saw a set of dress + socks + head scarf for
cheap but I had been eyeing the print in red before that. I wasn't sure
about this colorway because it's unusual for lolita but teal
unexpectedly suits me quite well. The alpine maiden and retro mashup
theme is cute. I like pairing it with red and have delusions of making a
crochet flower headdress to wear with it. [reference link]
Kimono Print Marie JSK and Headdress (2017)
I'm
a huge fan of traditional Japanese motifs and this one is exceptionally
colorful. Bright red arrow print? Retro style coloring and ladder lace
with bright yellow ribbon? SOLD. The ribbon is a rich golden yellow in
person. I have a pretty weeby coordinate in mind for this one but I am
not ashamed. The biggest, happiest surprise with this set was the
charms. I was casually admiring it after receiving it and then I noticed
THE PEARL CHARM HAS A CAT DANGLING OFF IT. The headdress also has cat
charms hanging from the bows. [reference link]
The Beauties of Nature Pleated JSK with Vine Print Ribbon (2018)
One of my first purchases of 2019, and one of the few I've bought brand new at initial release. I fell in love with the color scheme (bright colors + red on black) and the pretty lace details. The waist ties are reversible! One side is solid black with wide black lace running vertically, and the other is a traditional Japanese crane-temari-floral print. It feels more formal and mature than the other Japanese print dresses I have, probably because it's got a lot of solid black and the waist bow is smaller. [reference link]
Grimoire ~Magic Book of Starlight~ Lace Up JSK (2018)
Somewhat of an impulse buy, but it came up for a good price last month, and I was even able to get the matching socks too. I think I'm going to be able to do a lot with it. I've always wanted a book print that I could also push toward vaguely witchy styling and this seems perfect for that. It's hard to tell from the photo, but there's metallic silver thread in the lace embroidery! [reference link]
Magical Moon Light Side Frill JSK (2018)
I fell in love with this as soon as I saw a photo of it and hunted for it ever since. I missed out on this when it was initially released, and then it came up for sale secondhand early this year for a price I was also more comfortable with (the original was over $400, and while I understand why, it was still a lot). I love how elegant the black x gold combination is, and the starry print. The fabrics are both very slightly sparkly and shimmery. [reference link]
Rose Ribbon JSK with Overskirt (2018)
Flower Dance for Vulnerable Beauty Frill JSK (Plus Size) (2019)
The
stripes in this print are really striking on the black colorway, and I
love that it's paired with gold and that there are swords hidden in the
print. I originally had the front pleated cut in black but it didn't fit
as well as I hoped, and I didn't want to alter it to fit. Thankfully
this one came up for sale for a good price soon after, so I decided to
try it and I like it a lot. I didn't know which size it was at the time I
bought it and they hadn't started using size labels yet, but it turned
out to be plus size. It's a little long (not excessively so, just longer
than most Meta dresses are on me) and the bodice feels quite roomy, and
I quite like the extra room. [reference link]
Memories Garden Frill JSK (2019)
When I was trying to choose a cut and colorway of Memories Garden at the beginning of 2020, I went for the Ribbon JSK in navy, but in the back of my mind I was still really curious about what the gray colorway of the print looked like in person. This other JSK cut in gray came up for sale secondhand in 2020 with tags still on for a very good price, so I went for it. Now having both, I think I like the Ribbon JSK cut slightly more but this is still a really stunning dress. I still cannot get over the beautiful details in this series, especially the chemical lace that looks like a garden fence and the subtly glittery ribbons. [reference link]
Memories Garden Ribbon JSK (2019)
I really, really wanted a red tartan dress with white lace for my old
school collection, and went a while searching for one secondhand but not
finding any in my price range that would fit. When Metamorphose released
this I was waffling because of the price and
was ultimately too slow to grab one by the time I decided I wanted it
enough to pay for it new. (The tartan colorways sold out within hours
and I did not get up in the middle of the night for the release.) You
can request to have them check their physical store locations for
additional stock but if they don't respond within 1 month, you should
assume it's sold out and they can't get one for you. They emailed me a
couple of days before the month was up -- they found one for me! I don't
normally spend as much as I did on this dress, but it feels worth it. I
love the tiered skirt and the ladder lace, and how bright the red color
is. [reference link]
Ellie JSK with Cape (2020)
An
impulsive secondhand buy, but I liked the idea of having a long solid
black dress and I was pleasantly surprised to find that this one is
flattering on me. The subtle texture on the fabric (shiny dots) is
really pretty and they shimmer in the light. This is the smaller size,
and it fits fine. [reference link]
3 Tier Frill JSK (Scalloped Lace, Solid) (2021)
When I saw this dress in deep solid green I couldn't stop thinking about it, and preordered it. The colorway is listed as "olive green" but it is a nice balanced shade, not too yellow or too blue. I wasn't sure at this point about Meta's plus sizing because it seemed like it might be too long, so I got the regular size so that I knew it had a good chance of fitting. It's even cuter worn than I imagined. [reference link]
Retro Diner JSK (2021)
Though I'm not usually a fan of how polka dots look on me, I fell in love with the mix of super cute details (heart buttons, ladder lace, lots of bows, a lace apron) and the classy wine/black/ivory color palette. [reference link]
Royal Jacquard Corset Style JSK (Plus Size) (2021)
It's
too bad that Fairy Angel closed, but it meant that I got a great deal
and was able to try out a plus sized Meta dress that I'd been eyeing but
didn't quite have the money to spend when it was released. Again, I did
not know which size it was when I was buying it and that was OK because
I could likely fit into either size, but suspected it was plus size
because there appeared to be more lace repeats along the top of the
bodice than in the stock photo, and when it arrived I learned that I was
right! The jacquard fabric is absolutely beautiful. The cut is quite
fancy and formal so I'm not sure how much use I will get out of it, but I
love having it for special occasions. [reference link]
